First Stop on our Year Long RV Trip: Finger Lakes Region, NY

Our first stop on our RV trip was to the Finger Lakes (FLX) in New York. There are 11 total Finger Lakes. We visited three: Keuka, Seneca, and Cayuga. There are so many wine trails in the Finger Lakes and the wineries are set on hills overlooking lush vineyards and beautiful lakes. We visited and stayed overnight at Castel Grisch and Heron Hill.

There are tons of things to do in this region including engaging in water sports and activities. We stayed at the Sampson State Park Campground for the sake of electric hookup (it was hot and humid), refilling our water, and dumping but we ended up really enjoying our stay there. We visited the Naval Museum on the campground and learned about the history of the training base during WWII and Korean War (who knew?).

Later to cool off, we took a dip in the invigorating water of Cayuga Lake in Taughannock Falls State Park. We viewed a dozen waterfalls in Watkins Glen State Park on a 3 mile hike on the Gorge Trail and Indian Trail. And then we visited Ithaca Falls near Cornell University before heading to Syracuse to visit family. There are a number of other falls to visit in this area and I wish we had more time to see more of them.

Next stop, the Adrirondacks (ADK).
